Owned by the parents of Manu and Marie-Pierre
(Owners of Chateau Beyzac), a substantial property in the minor
Côtes de Blaye district. These are the kinds of Châteaux that are
falling by the wayside as tastes change towards Mediterranean or New
World varietals. However those who make good wine and know how to
sell it are not merely surviving, they are prospering. Philippe
Raguenot is one of them. The château has about 150 acres of vines,
2/3 planted to red. However recently the emphasis here has shifted
towards white wines. This was where Blaye first made its reputation.
The liveliness of the Sauvignon Blanc is balanced by the tenderness
of the Semillon in a seamless whole. White Bordeaux was once popular
in the U.S. Wines like this could bring a renaissance.
