Porcupine Ridge
Coastal Region | South Africa
Porcupine Ridge is the second label of South
Africa's Boekenhoutskloof Winery. Operating from this winery located
on South Africa's Western Cape, winemaker Marc Kent is touted as
"the inspiration for a new generation of South African winemakers."
Marc Kent has had a stellar career and has built up an international
reputation as one of South Africa's greatest winemakers. Based in
Franschhoek, the estate's name has gained cult status because of the
balanced, fruit driven wines that reflect the varieties used as much
as the soil they come from. The estate's Porcupine Ridge wines are
for early drinking and share more than a passing resemblance to the
flagship wines. The crested porcupines are widely represented in
South Africa. They are covered in spines and quills which when
raised present a formidable fence of sharp spikes and move with a
ponderous gait accompanied by much snuffling and grunting. The
families that reside at Boekenhoutskloof are very welcome.
