Gouguenheim
Uco Valley, Tupungato, Mendoza | Argentina
Financier Patricio Gouguenheim was a success on
Wall Street before returning to Argentina to start his namesake
winery. He was able to purchase a fine facility in the Tupungato
sub-region of Mendoza and many hectares of mature vineyards.
Tupungato is a very special sub-region of Mendoza with vineyards
planted at some of the highest altitudes in the region. The diurnal
temperature swings in Tupungato can approach 50 degrees Fahrenheit
during harvest time. These huge temperature swings allow for wines
with intense ripeness combined with sappy freshness and firmer
structures than their cousins in Maipu and Lujan.
