A village hidden away in the Priorato hills
inland from Tarragona is the source of many fine wines today but has
a long wine growing history. The property is situated in the village
of Capçanes and served as the village cooperative since it was
founded in 1933 by five families in the village. In the 1990’s, the
co-op began making kosher wines for the Jewish population of
Barcelona, and from that exposure in the much larger city, the
property began to attract a greater level of interest. Garnacha
plays the dominant role in expressing the terroir in the wines and
some of these vineyards, approaching 100 years old, still exist and
are in production although yields are low.
