Bodegas Benegas
Upper Mendoza Riverbank, Mendoza | Argentina
Benegas is one of the flagship properties in the
Argentine wine industry. The Benegas-Lynch family was a pioneering
force in Trapiche Vineyards, one of Argentina's oldest commercial
wineries. They built their own winery in 1897 but were forced to
sell the business in later generations. The current patriarch of the
family, Federico Benegas-Lynch, repurchased the original family
vineyard and winery building and has spared no expense to refurbish
the building to its original grandeur and return Benegas to its
former glory. The heart of Benegas is the Finca Libertad (freedom
farm) Vineyard. With plantings of 45, 60, 80, and 100 years of age
in the unique sub-appellation of the Upper Mendoza Riverbank, the
Benegas winery team has incredible raw materials from which to draw.
The oldest plantings of Cabernet Franc, and Merlot are believed to
be planted on ungrafted rootstocks. Winemaking superstar Michel
Rolland, who consults at the property, believes they may be among
the last ungrafted Franc vines in the world.
