A.A. Badenhorst Family Wines are made on
Kalmoesfontein farm in the Paardeberg area, it falls in Swartland
appellation, between Wellington and Malmesbury. The 28 hectares of
vineyards consists of old bushvines planted in the Siebritskloof
part of the mountain. The property is owned by the dynamic and good
looking cousines Hein and Adi Badenhorst, both of them are
originally from Constantia. Their grandfather was the farm manager
of Groot Constancia for 46 years. Their fathers were born there and
farmed together in Constantia in the days when people still ate
fresh vegetables and Hanepoot grapes and when there were a lot less
traffic lights. The two of them have restored a neglected cellar on
the farm that was last used in the 1930’s to make natural wines in
the traditional manner. Adi Badenhorst was the previous winemaker at
Rustenberg.
